But Do You Really KNOW Beer?

Want to expand your knowledge of beer? Homebrewing isn’t the only option. Become a certified beer judge. The Beer Judge Certification Program trains beer tasters to identify individual characteristics of beer’s appearance, aroma and flavor. While this certification isn’t necessarily required to become a beer judge it will greatly increase your chances of joining a beer judge panel at a beer festival or other event. The BJCP style guidelines have become the standard in American brewing.

For a more well-rounded eduction in beer that looks beyond simply tasting beer there is the Cicerone Certification Program which has been billed as a sommelier standard for beer. Although Cicerone certification is still a relatively new program – none have yet been named to its top level of Master Cicerone yet – it has quickly become well respected in the beer community.
